There is no major international airport in Lofoten, but there are several ways to reach the islands by connecting flights.

1. Fly to Leknes (LKN) or Svolvær (SVJ) – Closest to Lofoten

The two airports in Lofoten are Leknes (LKN) and Svolvær (SVJ). To reach them, you usually need to transfer in Bodø (BOO).

  • Oslo (OSL) → Bodø (BOO) → Leknes (LKN) or Svolvær (SVJ)
  • Tromsø (TOS) → Bodø (BOO) → Leknes (LKN) or Svolvær (SVJ)

2. Fly to Harstad/Narvik Evenes (EVE) – A Larger Airport Near Lofoten

Another good option is flying to Harstad/Narvik (EVE), about 3–5 hours by car from Lofoten.

• Transport from Evenes:
  • Rent a car (recommended for exploring Lofoten)

• Leknes – approx. 233 km, 3 hours 45 minutes by car

3. Fly to Bodø (BOO) and Take a Ferry or Short Flight

Bodø is a key hub for reaching Lofoten.

• Airlines: SAS, Norwegian, Widerøe
• Routes:
  • Direct flights from Oslo (OSL), Tromsø (TOS), Trondheim (TRD), Bergen (BGO)
• Further transport from Bodø:
  • Widerøe flights to Leknes (LKN) or Svolvær (SVJ)
  • Ferry to Moskenes (takes about 3–4 hours)

Ferry from Bodø:

• Arrives in: Moskenes, in western Lofoten near Reine
• Best option if you want to explore the southern parts of Lofoten first
